Man 1: Are you cold? Man 2: What is it day or night? M1: My Name's Octuple, what's yours? M2: What's the time? M1: You just looked at your watch! M2: It may be slow or fast, what time do you make it? M1: Time isn't really very important.

Clerk: Here you can see him with his gun. Here he is coming in the front door and here he is pointing it at me and telling me to get down. I'm like "ah what do I do?" I'm like here but he can't see me right now. He's still pointing it at me, he's like; "Get the money!" I'm like "OK. Alright I'm going" and he's like: "Yeah just do it" Aaaand that's all, just do it. And I'm like "Okaaaay, alright I'm gonna get this really slowly for you, here's the change drawer, just gave him the change drawer. He's like; "Thanks, I'm gonna point my gun at you again, baaahhh, don't try anything!" And I'm like; "alright, do you want me to get a bag? I'll put it in a bag for you", and let me press this button, this police button yeaaah yeeeaaah press this police button but don't worry coz you didn't see a thing did ya? No. Alright. Well, let me get those for ya. And he says: "Here, see, I'm not gonna hurt anybody, I'm not gonna hurt anybody, I'm just gonna take this money." Ok. "Now you get the marlboro reds for me." I'm like; "Alright, I'll get the marlboro reds for you". And here's like a couple of grocery bags. Oh! "Do you want me to double bag that for ya? Here, I will put this bag inside that one", yeah, and he was like; "Yeah double bag it, double bag it" And you can see at this point I'm kinda bored, I press the button again. C'mon. And I'm pressing pressing pressing and he doesn't even see me. I'm still getting his cigarettes for him, got the cartons coz he said: "Get the cartons." And I'm like okaaay, alright I'm getting the cartons, there you go, there's your cartons for ya. Oh here he comes, and then like ok put those in a bag for me and I'm like; "Alright, there you go, alright get outta here". I tell him; "Please, just leave, just get outta here". Four minutes and forty five seconds. He moves that little stand outta the way, he's like; "Ok, I'm going now... see ya later..." Maybe, he's just sitting next to the door wondering if the cops are outside maybe? I'm watching him go, pressing the button again, c'mon! And I follow him out, oh, where's he going? Where's he going?

Thanks to Jose Guerrero at Plataforma Continental for the stellar new master and Cooper Bowman for fresh write up:

"Tarquin Manek’s ‘Do You Know The Mind Of A Bullet?’ offers a playful question in it's title and a similar sense of captivating opacity buried within it’s far-reaching compositions. Bullet was originally recorded and released in a scant few cassette copies at the same time as Manek’s undeniably classick Tarquin Magnet LP for Blackest Ever Black in 2015. Both still stand for me as high-water marks of what that label achieved during its tenure.

As a standalone release, Bullet, offers people a rare glimpse into Manek’s complicated and esoteric world. Genre devices are not adhered to (nor should they be), resulting in an album that fluidly morphs between modern-classical composition, abstracted ambience, heavy rhythm-driven experiments and haunting neo-folk (to name but a smidge). For me, hearing Bullet is akin to walking into a room filled with composite elements of Australia’s experimental and electronic histories (and futures) comfortably co-existing and jamming together into the wee, small hours.

Despite being one of the most adept and creative musical minds Australian has spawned in recent decades, what Manek allows to be glimpsed by the general public is far too few scant, so cherish the availability once again of this enduringly vital listening experience." CB.

Original write up from Blackest...

"Originally released on cassette, bundled with first initial pre-orders of Tarquin Manek’s Tarquin Magnet LP. Edition of 50, black shell in clear plastic library case with photocopied inlay.

Subsequently made available as a free download on December 4, 2015.

A crucial companion to Manek's album Tarquin Magnet, out now, it encompasses - among other things - lonesome ambient techno, in-the-red digi-dub, art-damaged folk-rock and string/woodwind chamber pieces. For those already familiar with its remarkable parent record, it’s a crucial addendum to that release; for the unacquainted, it can be enjoyed as a potent taster or as a standalone.

Australian artist Tarquin Manek is a member of F ingers and Tarcar, and currently records solo both under his own name and as LST. Tarquin Magnet, his first full solo outing for Blackest Ever Black, is out now on digital formats; the vinyl edition arrives next week."
